Advertising Ban Lifted in Two Australian States

The governments of Victoria and New South Wales in Australia announced that the ban on advertising by interstate bookmakers will be lifted. This means that bookmakers in these states will be permitted to advertise across borders. This is potentially great news for not only the bookmakers in these states but also for Betfair, who have been waiting a considerable amount of time to promote their business through advertising in the Victoria and NSW markets.
The change in legislation is geared at allowing better regulation of advertising by bookmakers and providing “new revenue streams for racing clubs in both states through advertising and race sponsorship.”
The restrictions on overseas bookmakers would still remain and, as well, the racefields legislation, the latter of which requires theinterstate operators to pay a fee to race clubs in order to use their fields; a long-held controversial topic amongst the corporate bookmakers.
Collier’s Bad Luck Streak Continues off the field

Twenty-six year old Richard Collier’s bad luck streak climaxed in the early morning hours on Tuesday when he was shot several times by an unknown gunman, while he and friend, Kenneth Pettway, were waiting in a car outside an apartment in the 2300 block of Riverside Avenue.
Collier, the 6-foot-7, 350 pound lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars had been having a streak of bad luck lately. It started when he was beat out by Khalif Barnes for the starting job at left tackle during training camp. Then, earlier this year, Collier was sentenced to 6 months of probation after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge which was filed in November of last year. Now, Collier is barely clinging to life at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center after a gunman shot several rounds into the vehicle occupied by him and Pettway. No suspects are currently in custody but cash rewards are being offered for any information leading to the apprehension of the assailant.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins APT Macau with Pocket Queens

The final table at the APT Macau event was anticipated to be explosive and boy was it ever!
Down to the wire, it was a toss up between Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Joon Hee Yea. Timoshenko had a 9:1 advantage but this was considerably whittled down when the money went in for the final time.
Joon Hee Yea’s King of Diamonds and Queen of Diamonds faced off against Timoshenko’s Queen of Clubs and Queen of Spades. The flop consisted of an Ace of Diamonds, Jack of Diamonds, and 6 of Clubs. All Joon needed now was any Diamond, a 10 of Diamonds, or a King to lead. The turn was an 8 of Hearts. The crowd almost cheered as they saw the red card being turned over and Timonshenko breathed a deep sigh of relief. It was all up to the river card to decide the fate of the 2 anxious Poker warriors. When the 3 of Hearts was drawn on the river, it was all over and the 20-year old Ukranian native (turned United States citizen) rejoiced in triumph at his $500,000 win and the title of Asian Poker Tour Champion under his belt. It was evidently a disappointment for Joon Hee Yea but he was a true sportsman nonetheless as he took home the $250,000 second prize.
This is Yevgeniy Timoshenko’s 2nd First Place finish. His winnings so far total $741,361. Some of his other achievements include a 1st Place finish at the PaddyPower Irish Open in April 2007; a 3rd Place finish at the Rendez Vous a Paris event in May 2007; and another 3rd Place finish at the Poker Pages Ranking Australian 2 Card Manila event at the 2008 Crown Aussie Millions Championship in January of this year.
Next on the agenda for the Asian Poker Tour are APT Seoul and APT Singapore; the dates of which are still to be announced.

Scott Henry!!!!!!!!! Let’s give a round of applause to Scott Henry folks. Mr. Henry has just walked away the winner of this year’s “Most Stupid Person Award”.
The 23 year old Devon resident was implicated in a robbery in which he and 2 accomplices stole a safe with over £6,000 from a resort nightclub. He was sentenced to 140 hours of unpaid community service for the crime. Instead of making good on what I consider a rather lenient sentence (I mean, some countries institute harsh punishments such as severing a limb for crimes of theft), Henry instead hopped on a plane to Las Vegas to participate in the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
When he did not report in for the work session, the probation board contacted his home, only to be told by his mother that he went to get a haircut before his Vegas trip. When he stood before Recorder Abbott for a breach of the community order work requirement, he was chastised as having no regard for the law and was further told that “if there was a sentence for stupidity you would be serving life imprisonment.”
Henry’s defense lawyer, explaining why he had made such a poor choice in judgement, said that gambling online had always intrigued Henry and he wanted to make his fortune by doing so. However, his plans of fame and fortune did nothing to his pocket and instead landed him a 3-month (all expense paid) trip in jail.

Whoever said lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place had obviously never heard of Usain Bolt, also known as “Lightning Bolt” of Jamaica.
Lightning Bolt struck not once, not twice, but an astounding three times in Beijing capturing gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and Men’s 4×100m relay race (with fellow teammates Carter, Frater, and Powell).
He ran each race effortlessly; cruising to the victory line in times of 9.69 in the 100m on Saturday (shaving off .20 seconds from the previous World Record), 19.30 in the 200m on Wednesay (taking 0.66 seconds off the previous time), and tearing up the track in his portion of the 4×100m relay bringing Team Jamaica’s final time to 37.10 seconds, breaking a 16 year old World Record time.
Jamaica, an island paradise, is also sadly known for its high crime rate and gang violence. Nonetheless, Jamaica stood still to watch their hometown hero go 3 for 3 (3 events, 3 gold medals, and 3 World Records) in Beijing on Thursday night. Bolt celebrated jubilantly after his victories using his arms to mimick a lightning bolt and dancing a Jamaican jig. He is truly the fastest man in the World; the clocks don’t lie, folks.
When asked if he would participate in other events such as the long jump or the 4×400 relay, he responded that he is just happy with his gold medals at this point. But who knows?
