Turn the odds in your favour

May 13, 2009

It is possible to turn the casino’s odds in your favour. And, I’m not talking about special software or cheating the casino. Then how? The answer is as simple as counting to 21. I’m talking Blackjack, folks! Blackjack is the only casino game where you can turn the casino’s odds in your favour. Forget Craps or even Roulette. You see the difference between games like Blackjack and Roulette is randomness. In Roulette, the wheel spins, a button is pressed, and the ball lands on a number. This happens over and over again. However, the first spin does not influence or have any influence over the 2nd or 3rd or any other spins. The spins are random.

This is not the case in Blackjack, however, because when a hand is played, the cards are removed from the deck, thus changing the proportion of threes and sevens and Aces. And, if you know how to play your cards strategically, then you could have the upper hand, thereby turning the odds in your favour.

It’s not difficult to do. It’s just a matter of counting cards. There is a strategy to counting cards. When a good card is dealt, count up and when a bad card is dealt, count down. Below, is a fairly simple card counting guide:

  • Card 2 - Count +1
  • Card 3 - Count +1
  • Card 4 - Count +1
  • Card 5 - Count +1
  • Card 6 - Count +1
  • Card 7 - Count 0
  • Card 8 - Count 0
  • Card 9 - Count 0
  • Card 10 - Count -1
  • Card Jack - Count -1
  • Card Queen - Count -1
  • Card King - Count -1
  • Card Ace - Count -1

The easiest way to do this and understand the concept is to start from zero. Whenever you observe a given card, change the count by the indicated amount. When the count is positive, the deck is in your favour and you should increase the size of your wager. The larger the count, the more favourable the deck is to you.

The next question people usually ask is “Is card counting legal?”. In my opinion, it isn’t illegal or cheating. It’s just good mathematics. However, many casinos don’t take too kindly to card counters, because in their opinion, card counters know how to win, which undermines their overall goal - to win money from Players. So, now, you’re probably wondering if it even makes sense to count cards because it seems like a lot of work. Well, that depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re trying to become a millionaire counting cards; then forget it. Even the best card counters only get a one percent advantage over casinos; meaning they need to bet $100 to make back $1. If, however, you are trying to hone your skills and come away with a small stash; then you’re in the right field.

Betfair vs. the Dutch Ministry of Justice

May 11, 2009

The world-renowned betting exchange, Betfair, announced that it has filed an action with the Dutch government, after the Dutch Ministry of Justice reportedly issued a letter advising the Dutch banks “…not to process payments from any Dutch customers wishing to place a bet on any legal gaming website”.

Betfair also issued a formal complaint to the European Commission citing that the actions of the Dutch Government blatantly “fly in the face of the EU principles”. Mark Davies, Betfair’s Managing Director, is not pleased in the slightest, as can be expected and has openly voiced that the Dutch Government is “desperate” and has “resorted to illegal tactics that prevent consumer choice and go against the treaty”.

Dutch residents are currently allowed to bet online with De Lotto. Betfair is a licensed operator in the EU community, including UK, Malta, Austria and Germany. They are therefore entitled to accept bets from the Netherlands. Stay tuned to find out the outcome.

2009 NFL Season Schedule

April 15, 2009

The 2009 NFL Season Schedule has been released and what a season it will be! View the schedule here and make your determinations of which teams will be tested throughout the regular season and enter the playoffs with injuries and which teams will simply coast.

There are so many exciting matchups that are absolute must-sees. Mark the dates on your calendar so you don’t miss the action. Below are those matchups we think are the most intriguing:

  • Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers will finally get their revenge on September 10th after losing 31-14 to the Titans in Week 16 last year.
  • Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers on September 13th. All the rave surrounds the two quarterbacks - Jay Cutler for the Bears and Aaron Rodgers for the Packers. Both are two of the better quarterbacks in the NFC North so it will be interesting to see how they stack up against each other.
  • The Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals will throw down once again and fans of both teams are anticipating a heck of a game. Will the Cardinals score another 33-13 victory or will the Panthers rise to the occasion and stomp out Arizona’s flame?

I-Gaming Expo in Macau

February 21, 2009

In 2001, Macau opened its gambling industry doors to foreign competition. This strategic move helped to move Macau from a locally controlled industry to a billion dollar success story. By 2006 Macau had become the largest gaming sector in the world with revenues surpassing that of the Las Vegas Strip.

Macau’s infrastructure is one of the reasons that the i-Gaming expo is so successful. The ease of travel to and from Macau, its extensive technological progress, and its rich gambling culture all play a vital role. At this year’s AiG, which is scheduled for February 24th - 26th, all the major Players in the industry will be in attendance and the Venetian will be a spectacle to behold. Products and services will be exhibited and introduced; deals will be made; and networking will provide attendees with lucrative business opportunities.

This year, the AiG will consist of two two pre-conference strategy days with the first looking at Mobile Gaming and the second being an Asian Marketing Masterclass. The speaker list features high profile names such as Matti Zinder (CEO of Spin3) and Dennis Valdes (President of PhilWeb) to name a few. In its 7th year and with just a few days left to the start of the event, the AiG show is already sold out. This is a tell-tale sign that Macau has a strong-hold on online gambling and does not intend on loosening the grip any time soon.

Lewis Hamilton reigns supreme

January 19, 2009

When the BBC Sports Personality of the year nominations were announced, there were already 7 Olympic gold medallists on the shortlist, including Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins and Rebecca Adlington.

Hoy and Adlington were main attractions that generated huge interest throughout 2008. The only person to top them was Lewis Hamilton, a Formula One driver and one of the hottest favourites in Sportsbetting. The 24-year old Lewis was spotted as a youngster racing at Buckmore by the McLaren Mercedes Team boss, Ron Dennis, and was taken under his wing.

The nurturing that the Team gave to Lewis paid off when he became the 2008 Formula 1 World Champion and subsequently received the 2008 BBC sports personality of the year award for the best sport man of the year on December 14 2008. Hamilton won the F1 Championship in a nail biting lap of the last race in Brazil by one point over Ferrari’s Felipe Massa. He was subsequently selected for the BBC award after being the younger driver to win the Formula One World Championship title.

Considered to be one of the best British sportsmen ever, Hamilton has a 2nd championship title in his sights. This time he will be driving his new car, the new Mercedes-powered MP4-24. He said, “The car looks beautiful…This is now my third season…I want the title again, that’s what we will be pushing for.” Hamilton believes that this year’s championship will be open due to the new rule changes. “That’s a great prospect for F1 fans,” he says. These changes include slick tyres instead of the previous 11 years of grooved tyres and the reduction of the rear wings on the cars to name a few.

It will be interesting to see how the favourites perform this year under these conditions. Spills or speedy passing? What will be the order of the day? For more rules changes, check out the official Formula One website.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly to Gambling Online

January 12, 2009

There is a vast difference to gambling online than gambling in a land-based casino - both good and bad. Below are my personal opinions on gambling online.

    The Good

  • You can play from the comfort of your own home. No more getting yourself ready and driving, walking, or taxiing to the casino.
  • There is no obligation to tip as there are no casino workers around.
  • You can avoid distractions from other Players. It’s just you and the computer.
  • You are treated more like a VIP at an online casino. Because of the competitiveness of the online casino/ gambling business, many casinos will offer high bonuses, free cash, free credits, prizes such as trips or gift certificates to name a few just to get and keep your business.
  • The rules are more varied and sometimes better than in land-based casinos.
    The Bad

  • Your withdrawals take some time to process so you don’t immediately get your winnings as you would in a land-based casino. The casino has a policy regarding processing times for withdrawals and, additionally, there may be delays or policies instituted by the payment provider as well.
  • If you use your credit or debit card to fund your playing account, your statements will usually specify the name of the merchant bank and not the name of the casino. This can be a hellish ordeal when it comes time to balance your statement.
  • Where customer service is concerned, it’s a hit and miss. Some online casinos offer superior Customer Support and clearly publish contact email addresses and toll-free numbers on their site to make it easy for the prospect or actual Player to get in touch with a real live person. Some even go as far as to offer live chat services where a Player can speak directly with a representative right away and also call-back services where a Player can input his/her telephone number and a time that is convenient for a rep to call him/her back. Some online casinos publish their contact details on the site but may not be available 24/7 to accept a phone call or a Player may end up waiting days to get an email reply. Checking out online gambling forums to see which casinos receive the most bad press is a good way to nip that problem in the bud.
    The Ugly

  • Gambling disputes. These normally occur due to discrepancies with bonuses and withdrawals. Cases where a Player feels he/she has met specific wagering requirements but did not receive the bonus or where he/she has waited past the timeframe for a withdrawal to be processed but did not receive payment will more often than not lead to a dispute. The Player not knowing where to turn and having exhausted his options with contacting the casinomay feel the need to dispute the charge in the form of a chargeback. When a Player does a Chargeback, the casino may or may not (depending on the severity or circumstances surrounding the incident) report the Player to casino watchdog sites and the software provider so that his/her name is entered into a negative database. Once a Player’s name is blacklisted in this way, it becomes difficult for him/her to register accounts at other online casinos. Even if his/her name is accepted for registration, he/she will probably not receive the same courtesies as another Player (for e.g. he/she may not be eligible for deposit bonuses or other similar promotions. This is almost a no-win situation for both the casino and the Player because at some point in time, one of them could be construed as being dishonest in the face of a publicized matter.

To avoid The Bad and The Ugly, I urge Players to ask themselves 7 key questions before deciding on an online casino. Especially important is a casino’s reputation - is it licensed, does it pay its Players, and does it have multiple reliable payment options.

Largest Single Jackpot of more than $250,000 paid out at Everest Casino

October 17, 2008

Everest Casino

The game was Jackhammer Jackpot. The winner was K.P. from France. And the story was both unbelievable and inspiring.

K.P. was new to online gaming, having only registered her Everest Casino account in March. The Jackhammer slots game was virtually new to Everest as well, having been released in August 2008. And with one single pull of the slot machine lever, K.P. went from counting every dollar spent to more serious worries - worrying about how to spend all that money.

“I guess I will be reimbursing my house’s mortgage… Or maybe I will sell it back and buy a new, prettier one… Or maybe I’ll just try to live better every day, and stop counting money all the time — I don’t know yet!” K.P. said in an interview with Everest Casino.

Whatever her decision, one thing is for certain, she will not be playing anywhere else other than Everest Casino for a long, long time.

Sign up with Everest Casino and double your deposit (100% Match up to $100). Spread the word about it to your friends and earn extra cash.
